Tax free shopping?

I have read on several pages that it is possible to get a discount or tax saving of some sort in the larger department stores. Is it really true that all you need to do is present your passport, and is that at each individual till point that you make a purchase at inside the store? We are travelling to N.Y. soon and definately want to do some shopping in Macy%26#39;s and possibly Bloomingdales[If we ca afford them]

We are flying to N.Y. with Virgin atlantic.Has anyone got an opinion on the flight.egService ,food films etc. Thanks Rosee North East England

Hi Rosee. You go the customer services in both stores and they give you a discount voucher to show at the till. If you spend a certain amount you also qualify for a gift.

I%26#39;ve flown Nirgin before and the service was really good. Seatback screens, food was OK, and the staff very friendly. They normally come out a bit more expensive than some other airlines, but it was a good flight for me.

Forgot to mention that it%26#39;s the customer services where you have to show your passport

I just flew for the first time with virgin (have flown BA and AA), on the way out to new york we had one of theior more modern planes - we were in economy and the seats were VERY tight - this made the whole journey quite uncomfortable, it wasnt the leg room - although that was squashed, it was acually the width of the seat and arm rest - both me and my boyfriend are tall and average build but felt like we were constricting our arms for the whole flight. On the way back it was an older plane and there was more room - kinda what you would expect in economy. On a positive note the in flight entertainment is good, loads of movies - and on the modern plane you can choose the start time, and pause it when you want. There are also games you can play. The food was fine, if you have a special diet they seem to cater for most types, the staff were all friendly- if it was a good price ticket (as ours was) then I cant complain too much!

Hi

Flying American Airlines next month and heard some conflicting stories, would you say they were ok generally??

I flew to Chicago with American and they had the longest legroom . All alcoholic drinks have to bought (they were$5, might be more now!) but the staff were OK, and food the same as anywhere else. Seatback screens on our flights.

Thanks to Daisiegee and Nads p for your info on tax free shopping and Virgin Airlines. I wll certainly remember to take my passport with me when shopping. Fingers crossed our flight with Virgin will be ok too. Thanks again Rosee

Hi Rosie, We have always flown to the states with Virgin. Always have found the hostesses helpful and the legroom fine. go to www.v-flyer.com for a look at your seats and reviews on them and other hints and tips when flying virgin. Also sign up for their air miles programme. we save on average 锟斤拷100 per person per flight when we use them. Your flight to NY will give you approx 8000 miles. with these you can expect to save at least 锟斤拷400 over you nxt four trips with Virgin. We are flying to NY and then back from orlando for 锟斤拷175 each. e-mail me if you want more info marlinsapalu@yahoo.com.

Thanks Marlinsapalu for the information on Virgin flights. It is reassuring to know that someone has found them to be ok.Thanks again,Rosee
