A friend (34 yrs old) on a recent trip to Florida was asked for I.D no less than three times while buying alcohol. This got me thinking about what I.D is acceptable as proof of age. I will be 30, but might be mistaken as younger (Damm those spots!) I don%26#39;t drive-so no liscense and would prefer not to carry my passport around with me.
Proof of age
Some places are uber-anal, others couldnt care less. Bring some id (even a copy of your passport) just to be safe.
Proof of age
Bring your passport. Not only are many bars/liquor stores skeptical of alternative forms of ID (I mean other than a driver%26#39;s license) but a passport is the mother of all forms of ID (short of finger print and DNA tesing, of course) so you should have no trouble if you present it. I understand being uncomfortable about carrying your passport around every place (what if it gets lost or stolen...) but it really is your best bet.
Will a photo copy of my passport cover these things? At the tender age of twenty nine and traveling with a partner of twenty seven (Who I am marrying while there) would be mortified if asked!
A ';copy'; of anything will most likely not be accepted. This was true in NYC even before 9/11. Congrats on the impending nuptials by the way.. :)
Now I%26#39;m looking forward to being ID%26#39;d - I%26#39;m gonna be much more mortified if no one asks me - I mean I COULD be under 21 (in dim light!)
I suspect that a COPY of your passport will not be accepted,
In the USA (at least in NY and Also AZ), you can get a NON-DRIVERS LICENSE ID (almost all US licenses have pictures now). THat is, it looks quite similar in all ways to a DL except its NOT (and cant be used as one).
Check with your local motor vehicle bureau and see if this is a possibility for you.
Carry your passport. Perfect ID and it%26#39;s safer on you than in a hotel room. Have a wonderful time and count your blessings that you still get carded!
