Decent Times Square Hotel Under $200??

My son is turning six in a few weeks, and all he wants to do is visit New York City and stay at a hotel in Times Square - to check out all of the lights at night! We thought it would be a grand way to celebrate, but finding a hotel for a single night for under $200 (or even under $300) is proving difficult. Thought I found one in the Super 8, then read reviews here about mice and cockroaches.. Ugh! Any suggestions??

Decent Times Square Hotel Under $200??

Perhaps you could try bidding for a room on one of the discount webpages.

Decent Times Square Hotel Under $200??

Look at the reviews for hotel 41 seem pretty decent

What about the Comfort Inn Midtown? It is half-a-block off Times Square (between 6th Avenue and Times Square), and I couldn%26#39;t fault it when I stayed there last October. I paid $162 for a queen room (not sure what your accommodation requirements are), and that was in high season. Check out all the reviews of this hotel on this website and you%26#39;ll see it%26#39;s very highly rated, which is what I based my decision on to stay there. There%26#39;s even a breakfast included!

Otherwise, if you want something cheaper, there%26#39;s the Portland Square Hotel around the corner, also half-a-block off TS. It%26#39;s a ';no frills'; hotel, quite a bit cheaper, but absolutely fine as far as cleanliness is concerned. I%26#39;ve always found the en-suite rooms very acceptable, with full private bathroom equipped with all the necessary toiletries, spotlessly clean with fresh towels provided every day, in-room safe (very handy), and TV with all the channels you could want.

If you would like any further information on these two hotels, you%26#39;re welcome to email me directly (cnixon@humanities.uct.ac.za).

Plug your travel dates and number of people in your party onto easyclicktravel.com and see what pops up. For some of the off the record hotels, betterbidding.com can tell you what they are.

I also recommend betterbidding because they can help you if you decide to try hotwire or priceline. Good luck.

I dont know if this will help you. I stayed in the Herald Square Hotel. It is just down from Macys and very near the Empire State Building. It is about 5min walk to Time Sq. They have rooms that sleep 4 for about $170 a night. The hotel is nothing special but it is very clean and has a seperate bathroom. For that price it was a million times better than we were expecting, we had visions of having to buy our own bed linen but it was nothing like that and I will be staying there again if I return to NY. Enjoy your trip.

Dear Vegemom,

You can get a nice hotel in or near times square for $200 or under. Go to www.hotwire.com or www.priceline.com

Priceline: You pick the general area of the hotel. Pick more than one for better results. Then, you pick the star rating and name your own price. Once you put the price in, and priceline.com accepts it, you have bought the hotel. NO REFUNDS! I understand people being skeptical, but my wife and I have done this about 10 times for $100 each. If you want help bidding you can check out www.betterbidding.com for free advice. If your bid is declined, you must wait 3 days to bid again, or change the star rating and then you can bid again at any time.

Hotwire: You put in your dates and areas of the city. Hotwire comes back with different prices for different star ratings and locations. You pick one of them. I did a search for May with Hotwire and a 4* in midtown came back at $185. The hotel is a secret until you put your credit card in. Then, NO REFUNDS if accepted.

My wife and I always do priceline and have been declined only once at the $100 level for a 4*. We tried 3* at $90 and got it.

Enjoy the beatiful city.

One more thing: If you do priceline, please only expect the basics. A clean room at the star level and area you asked for. They will probably give you the most basic room so if you need special things (extra roll out bed, king etc...) you may not get it. This has never been a problem as the minute our bid is accepted, I call the hotel directly ands ask for king bed non smoking. Try it; it%26#39;s kind of fun and you save money!
