Empire State Building - evening or morning?

I had planned to go up the Empire State building on the first morning of our visit (both to get oriented and avoid a lineup) but now am wondering if it is better to see the view in the evening with all the lights. Any thoughts?

OK - I think I%26#39;ll change my plans and go up it around 6:00 on our first evening - then we can see the daylight and the lights.

Is it typically a long wait at that time of day (a Wednesday)?

Yes---do go at night, the view is breathtaking. When we went up at night, the lines weren%26#39;t that long.
