Taking my husband, 11 year old and 8 year old daughters. Which play should we see?
Hairspray or Mamma Mia?
I haven%26#39;t seen Mamma Mia, but I loved Hairspray and I think your husband and daughter will like it, too. The songs are all catchy, it%26#39;s got a good ';women empowering'; theme and it%26#39;s just really sweet.
Hairspray or Mamma Mia?
I saw Mamma Mia in January and it was really good, the only show I have ever been to where I was up dancing along to the songs.
Go For it
xx
I saw Mamma Mia in Dublin, so I can%26#39;t comment on the Broadway version, but the show is really good fun. Its pretty cheesy alright but funny with plenty of razzle dazzle etc!
Hairspray, no doubt.
Okay so its really hard to recommend something like this without first knowing your likes and dislikes so I%26#39;ll give you my take on this.
I am young (23) and have seen hairspray twice and absolutely loved it. After my pressure from many others saw Mamma Mia and to be honest with you I much prefer Hairspray. Dont get me wrong it was still enjoyable but I was not as blown away as everyone else there obviously was. I was not all that familiar with the music of ABBA and had I been 11 or 8 honestly I would have hated it. Now I will say that many others will disagree. It was funny at times but I felt that it was very forced. HAirspray on the other hand for me had me laughing out loud and wanting to see it again and again. My friend that saw both shows with me agrees, and she is nothing like me at all. Are you familiar with Hairspray, the movie? It was one of my favorites when I was young so that may be why I enjoyed theatre version so much. I know this may not help much, but try listening tothe soundtracks to get a feel for the difference in syle. Visit the websites for both also. Hope this helps.
Hairspray.
I%26#39;d go with Hairspray. But whichever you choose, you%26#39;ll have a wonderful evening.
Mamma Mia is only good if you were a big fan of ABBA. I wasn%26#39;t and my wife was, so I was dragged off to it. It didn%26#39;t make me like ABBA any more than before. The plot is highly contrived in an attempt to make ABBA songs ';fit'; a storyline. I didn%26#39;t think it worked. But then did I mention I don%26#39;t really care for ABBA?
Hairspray is a terrific high energy funny and yes inspiring story of a young girl pursuing her dream against all odds. Great for young girls to see.
Do your daughters and husband like Abba music? If they love Abba, especially the girls, then I%26#39;d go to MammaMia. Hair Spray was OK, I%26#39;ve seen much better though - I think it has changed too much from the old original.
I have seen both of the hows and Hairspray definately gets my vote . Book in advance though as you are unlikely to get tickets last minute
