Hey everyone!
I can%26#39;t thank you guys enough for all the information you give on here, it has helped me out immensly in planning my NYC trip with my best friend. We are leaving in less then a week, and I am extremely pumped for it! I have made up this potential itinerary according to our must do%26#39;s/see%26#39;s and the location of the places. I am not so sure how long everything will take and I don%26#39;t want to leave us strapped for time, but I would appreciate it if you guys could point out any spots that could/should be filled and any recommendations you might have. Keep in mind we%26#39;re 19 year old female students with a somewhat limited budget ;)
Day 1 Sunday Feb 20th: Arrive LaGuardia 3:15 pm, yellow taxi to Best Western President, get settled. Have a sit-down dinner, nothing too expensive %26lt;$25 each (Carmine锟斤拷锟絪 came recommended and looks affordabel but there%26#39;s only two of us! Somewhere else? What%26#39;s that website?). Check out Times Square. Go to and go up Empire State Building (bought tix in advance).
Day 2 Monday Feb 21st: Up, be at Century 21 at 8:00 am. When finished, walk over to Ground Zero, pay respects at St. Paul锟斤拷锟絪 cathedral, free ferry to see Stat. of Lib. Lunch. Go to TKTS booth to get broadway tickets. Drop off any bags at hotel, home to freshen up. Broadway Show. After theatre dessert?
Day 3 Tuesday Feb 22nd: Walk through Central Park, 锟斤拷锟絋he Gates- Christo and Jeanne Claude锟斤拷锟? Bloomingdales, SoHo, Tiffany锟斤拷锟絪, canal st fakes. Maybe museum? What to do at night (we%26#39;re underage)?
Day 4 Wednesday Feb 23rd: What to do in the morning? Get taxi at 12pm from hotel to airport (LGA). Flight leaves at 3:55 pm. Is that leaving enough time?
Some options we were thinking about: Bliss Spa, a comedy club, S*x and the City Tour, MOMA (not sure if friend would like that though)....
Thanks everybody!
Jennifer
An almost complete itinerary!?
Since you are Smarteepants, you might consider a few alterations.
Carmine%26#39;s is a fun place, but more for a group rather than two people. Assuming you want to stay in that area, you might want to try Joe Allen%26#39;s on West 46th. If you want Italian, NY Whiz often recommends a place called (I believe) Trattoria Trecolari. She knows her stuff so even though I%26#39;ve never been you can assume it%26#39;s very good. That website you%26#39;re looking for is Menupages.com. It lists restaurants both by type of food as well as by location. You should find a substitute there. And don%26#39;t be concerned about being underage in restaurants even though they serve alcohol. If they also serve food you can get in.
On Day 2, you%26#39;re going to be downtown so why go back to Times Square for the Tickets booth? Hold off on shopping first thing in the morning. Why carry bags around? Go to Ground Zero, St. Paul%26#39;s and the Statue. Since you want to visit Canal Street and Soho (Day 3) why make a separate trip when you%26#39;re so close. Visit them then. Then hop over to the South Street Seaport. There%26#39;s a Tickets booth there and the lines are generally shorter than in Times Square. Then go to Century 21 to shop and back to your hotel. If you go shopping first thing you%26#39;ll be carrying bags around with you the rest of the day.
Since we%26#39;ve eliminated Soho and Canal Street from Day 3 and moved them back to Day 2, you can now add the Museum of Modern Art to your schedule. It%26#39;s not far from Central Park and those ';wonderful'; Gates.
Sorry but I can%26#39;t help with suggestions of what underage gals can do at night. It%26#39;s been quite awhile since I%26#39;ve been underage and never have I been a female.
Finally, if you%26#39;re leaving at 12 for LaGuardia for a 3:55 flight, that%26#39;s more than enough time even with our brain dead taxi drivers. At most it%26#39;s a 45-minute trip. Of course, if they detour through Bangladesh...that%26#39;s another story entirely.
An almost complete itinerary!?
Thanks so much Ruffian! Will definetly take those suggestions, I was just a little concerned about heading to Century 21 in the afternoon though and thats why it was in the morning (apparantly it becomes a complete ZOO). I didn%26#39;t realize there was two TKTS booths so thanks so much for that! Those restaurants sound good, I will go check out menupages as well :) I am used to international travel being that you had to be at the airport 3 hours in advance to check in. Not the case for travel between Canada/US? Thanks again!
P.S the name smarteepants is a sarcastic one LOL, thats why I was asking for help in the first place ;)
Try these places for nightlife:
Cafe Wha - www.cafewha.com
Garage - www.garagerest.com
Both are in Greenwich Village, it is a fun, great place to explore. YOu will love it.
Smartee, Broadway is dark on Mondays. I%26#39;m not sure which tickets TKTS will be selling on Monday, but it won%26#39;t be to Broadway shows playing that evening. You could hit the TKTS booth first thing Tuesday morning instead before you head further uptown if you don%26#39;t want to switch your planned Monday with your planned Tuesday.
You%26#39;re right that Century 21 is a lot easier to deal with early in the day. Past lunch hour it will be crowded, sometimes unpleasantly so.
Thanks guys! I never really thought about when the actual Broadway shows were playing, if we cannot get a decent seat to Rent on the Monday (which I believe is the only one playing we want to see) then I%26#39;ll take your recommendation and switch to the Tuesday.
I also think that we are going to go to Cafe Wha on the other night, totally looks like fun! Is there anything else in Greenwich Village that is a must see while we%26#39;re in that area? Is it a good place for celebrity sightings? lol
Apparently, there is a code for discount tickets to Rent right now- WINTER. The web site says that you can get tickets for $45 (front mezz) or $55 (orchestra). I don%26#39;t think you will get a better deal than that at TKTS. If you are able to get the discount, I would recommend buying your tickets online and save yourself a wait in line.
Rent is great! I have the soundtrack. I%26#39;ve actually been driving around listening to it all week. Enjoy!
Ok I%26#39;m leaving tommorrow morning, anyone else have anything to add? Thanks so much for your help everyone, can%26#39;t wait to get there! I%26#39;ll let you know how it went when I get home :D
