We are in the process of planning our forthcoming trip to N.Y. We are staying at THe Westin Times Square and wondered where we can eat breakfast.Inside the hotel would be one option. Are there any good reccomendations for eating breakfast out in the vicinity of the hotel.[8th Ave 43 street area] Thanks Rosee

If you don%26#39;t mind a shorrt subway ride, take the A, C or E train south from 42nd Street for three stops to 14th Street. Not far away you%26#39;ll find a true ';hidden gem'; called Restaurant Florent. It%26#39;s located at 69 Ganesvoort Street, a street most New Yorkers haven%26#39;t heard about. It%26#39;s just south of 14th and a bit west of 9th Avenue in what is now known as the meatpacking district.

The meatpacking district is very trendy right now, with a lot of ';name'; chefs opening places that serve ';cuisine'; rather than food. But this place was around when they were still butchering cows in this neighborhood. It%26#39;s nothing to look at (it looks like a diner) but the food is excellent. They%26#39;re open 24 hours but specialize in breakfast.

The owner is a Frenchman who came here back in the %26#39;60%26#39;s and has been very active in attempting to landmark important buildings in the area. If he%26#39;s there, he%26#39;ll talk to you about the history of the neighborhood.

Ellens Stardust Diner was good, lovely breakfast in an old style diner. The waiters sing aswell which was really good. (its near the letterman show theatre) also best brekky we had in NYC was The Brooklyn Diner opposite The Hard Rock Cafe.

We ate at the Art Cafe which I am sure is on 1657 Broadway on the corner of 52nd St. - Somebody will tell you if I am wrong. I know its slightl up town from your hotel, but if you are heading for Central Park or Rockerfeller Center, then I would recommend it, the breakfasts were brilliant there.

Friends who stayed at the Westin recommended the Evergreen Diner to us. They enjoyed it. A few weeks later, so did we!! It is not a fancy place---just great food and plenty of it, great service, and friendly employees. We ate breakfast there more than once and would go back again. Inexpensive and very near the Westin.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply to my question.I have made a note of everyones recommendations and we will try some if not all of them out. Thanks Rosee
