Although I have family in upstate NY and my Dad lives in a cramped up HUD apartment in NY and I was born in nyc , Im running into problems getting a hotel and flight that gives me most bang from my bucks. My brother and I are not close and it beyond akward for me to ask him for us to stay with him upstate especially we barely speaks. I want to visit him and say hi but that%26#39;s it . And my dad situation is obvious.
I wanted a hotel in the heart of the city midtown but most are over 200 dollars and the flight could be had for 200 and change American Airlines which is not too bad. There was one hotel that caught me eye called Second Home on Second Ave which has gotten good reviews here. But that is Greenwich village , it been 12 years since I last visited. How far is the village from the tourist attractions, i.e, rockfeller center, United Nations, etc.
Are they bargain hotels that are clean and in SAFE neighborhood that are below the 200 dollars.
I have checked expedia, hotwire and others. I havent found tha ';wow'; deal yet.

OK, I check and saw where Greenwich is compared to the others places.
Any comments on my question regarding bargain hotels in good area?

Prices depend on what time of year you%26#39;re coming. There are lots of decent places for under $200 in midtown. Also have you checked Jet Blue from Long Beach as an option for your flight?
Where is your father living? Do you want to be near to him? I would suggest staying in a hotel that has some kitchen facilities so you could have breakfasts and/or light meals in if you want. The Beekman Tower Hotel is really nice and near the UN. (east 49 st). The Beacon or the Milburn are on the upper west side. The Murray Hill Suites is in the east 30s. There are a number of places in the east 30s. I think Second Home on Second is an ok area, but they only have 2 rooms with private baths. The rest you have to share. Is that what you want? Hotel 41 is very good in the Times Square area. I could go on. What area would you like to be in?
Thanks for your reply. My dad lives in the bronx , I remember upstate bronx wasnot too bad while I was living there but with my young daughter , I prefer not to risk it.
Midtown will be my first choice. I got a travel agent that can get me to NY for $1800 airfare, hotel(hilton) and transportation to and fro hotel.
Does that sound like a good deal to you?
Check out the Belvedere. It even has a small kitchenette. I have heard nothing but great things about it and it is two blocks from Times Square right in the theater district. Have a great time with your daughter. If opportunity presents itself, please take her to see the Lion King.....it is amazing!
The Belvedere sounds perfect and thanks for the info on the lion king. The online rates was 170 to 165 a night. Was your rate the same.
Where is the best place to buy tickets to the Lion King, I would imagine I should buy it before.
TIA
update
Thanks for the tip on the belverdere, so IM 90 percent ready to purchase the tickets.
My hesitation is do I go with the HIlton for 2400 dollars or the belverdere or paramount for 500 dollars less.
Is the 500 dollars extra justifies the Hilton ,or will that money be better spent in attractions?
I value you guys opionions, Let me know what you think.
TIA
Read the reviews of both hotels. If you need all the amenities at the Hilton, then obviously it%26#39;d be worth the difference. Personally, I%26#39;d go for the Belvedere and spend the money elsewhere. Your daughter might be happier if you spent the money taking her to see ';Beauty and the Beast'; (book via www.broadwaybox.com) and shopping at the American Girl store (5th Ave. at 49th Street) and Toys R Us (Broadway at 44th St.).
As luck will have it , I was ready to book the Beleverde and
they have no vacancies for the week of March 25-April 1- I still
have the Hilton , besides the Beleverde is there nothing as
favorable and nice in Times Square?
And I am working through a travel agency for a package deal and a friend said I should book the flight and hotel separately.
I have found the travel agency deal as good as the online flight and hotel deals.
Also take a look at the Novotel, Portland Square and Broadway Inn. At all costs, avoid the Carter!
The lastest wrinkle, my father-in -law that has time shares and says he will try to get one for me. I told him time is wasting b/c I%26#39;m leaving in 6 weeks(March 25) and the rooms are already booking fast. I told him ,I will give him a week , then by this weekend I have to make reservations, regardless.
The time squares hotels are booking fast, the Belverdere is booked and only the expensive ones are available. Today, I went to borders and read on nyc and the author recommends upper west side for hotels, saying is nice and clean and cheaper then most and of course close to the subways.
(BTW, the author of the book, I read said to call the conciege of the hotel that is booked and sometimes , they can get you a room) ?
Anyone had great exprience staying upper west side? And Can I book w/o paying so I wont lose more time? I dont want to pay a cancelation fee.
