New year celebration's do you need a ticket

New year celebration's do you need a ticket

NO you cannot buy tickets and whilst the crowds gather in Times Square, no backpacks, food or drinks are allowed(high security), also when you go you are placed in a pen and if you leave you cannot return back to that position, it will be very crowed and quite frantic, there are also no toilet facilities and to get a good place you need to be there in the afternoon, bearing in mind the weather can be freezing its not that pleasant. ive done it twice and would not recommend it.

My advise is book a resturant overlooking times square and book now.

Ther is a rest called The View which revolves at the Mariott Marquis this is one that gets good reviews for the view overlooking times sq and the city.

Also there are a number of resturants in the direct vicinity but wheather you could book now i dont know. Orchard Garden would have excellent view into Times SQuare. There is a trip report from two people with photographs just after the New Year who did just that and went to times square and just stayed in the resturant, the area is very high security so at some point, they will block access in and out of times square.

So you need to be in a resturant early to guarantee a seat.

I went to new york for the new year celebrations last year and it was amazing, the only problem is you will never beat it, unless you go back. luckily we had a room booked at the renaissance hotel in times sq, here we were able to sit in the bar watching the crowds gather from midday onwards.

we then had an area outside the hotel witch was reserved for hotel guests so we were able to go out and soak up the atmosphere.

i did hear the resuraunts were a good idea so book early if you can. i know a friend who has done it at planet hollywood which is in a good position.

however if you have the stamina then get down the front and dont leave your position and i will promise you will have an amazing time.

the police are very strict and efficiant so make sure you dont leave your position because under no circumstances will they let you back in.

hope you have a good time!

need to know anything else justy ask.

you cant get tickets.

Just wondering Coop11 have you booked your hotel yet?

We have our flights booked but a lot of the .com hotels are showing on request or call.

Dicky is right. Book a hotel on Times Square if you can afford it. We were in the Doubletree for this years. You get a pass and letter so the police let you though the cordons if you go away from the area. Also you can get into the pens outside your hotel at any time although it got crowded (but not packed) from about 22:00.

Yes I have booked my hotel. We will be staying at the salisbury because we stayed there last year in the summer and know the area quite well now.

Thanks for the advice about booking a restaurant that sounds like the best idea as there is no was I would last all that time without a toilet visit!!!!!

Thanks everyone

You%26#39;re all MAD!!!

Consider an alternative to Times Square... have a lovely late dinner someplace nice and then stroll up to Central Park for the midnight fireworks. There%26#39;s also a midnight road race in the park.

Hi There, We have booked for Xmas and New Year also. Went last November and loved it so much we wanted to go back for this special time of year. Got so much help from everyone on this site last time, thanks for that everyone. Stayed at the Lucerne last time, was really nice but thought we would like to be more central this time. Booked the Belvedere hope its a good choice. We were really sad and watched the Times Square celebrations on our laptop in my Mother in Laws house in Scotland and swore we would go this year :-) Think we will go with Bettina%26#39;s suggestion and have a nice meal somewhere and watch fireworks. While I am here any suggestions for a special meal Xmas day. I know its a bit early but I like to be organised!!!

Hi it is me again I was just wondering if anyone would be able to advise me on how to book for one of the restaurants.

Do you think we are too early to book?

We did the Olive Garden on New Year 05 and bought the tickets on the Monday 27th Dec 04 at the restaurant itself - they had about 10 tickets left at that point. It was $165 for buffet food, all drinks, dj and disco, party hats etc, champagne toast at midnight. They let us out to a pen at 11.45 so had a prime spot and excellent view of all the celebrations. Would highly recomment it as we had a fab time.

Other restaurants on and around Times Square did similar packages for about the same price - TGI was one I definitely remember. You could try and phone up and book in December or wait and see what you fancy when you get there as they were all advertising during the two week build up to the big night. I tired phoning a few places end Nov early Dec before we left for our trip, but no one seemed to know what they were doing then, so I wouldn%26#39;t bother phoning til end of first week in December based on my experience.
