I am in NYC in April to celebrate my sister%26#39;s 40th Birthday. We are not sure where to eat for her birthday as there will also be 2 children so that may limit us. Can anyone recommend a good restaurant that will happily cater for 8 adults and 2 children?
40th Birthday mealOne of our favorite restaurants in NYC is Il Vagabondo. It%26#39;s on 62nd Street between First and Second Avenues. It%26#39;s a pretty authentic neighborhood Italian restaurant and reasonably priced. It even has an indoor bocce ball court. There have been families in attendance every time we%26#39;ve gone. They are very accommodating if you let them know of any special requests when you make your reservation. Enjoy!
40th Birthday mealWhere are you staying?
Do you like Mexican food? I just had my birthday dinner at Mama Mexico on the Upper West Side. I chose it because I needed a fun place that took reservations for a large group. It was a festive atmosphere for a birthday party, and there were several kids there that night (not in my group, but in the restaurant nonetheless). I think small children would be entertained by the mariachi bands and the waiters making fresh guacamole at the table. The food and margaritas were good. We enjoyed it as a group of 20-30 year olds, but there were all ages there that night. It was a bit difficult to carry on a conversation because it was so loud, but small children would not be disturbing at all! www.mamamexico.com

I believe children were given balloons, also.

They have two locations. In my opinion, the UWS outpost is more casual, the midtown one a bit more formal. I enjoyed my meal at both, however.
Sorry about the duplicate post. For some reason, it took the first one a while to show up on my screen.
I hope your sister has a fun birthday wherever you decide to eat!
Dear sjc,
With a group that size that includes kids, I would recommend Churrascaria Plataforma. It is a Brazilian steakhouse. The concept is to serve a wide variety of different cuts of beef, pork, lamb, chicken, etc., in succession, to each diner individually right at their table, thus there is not a traditional menu. The restaurant features a fixed-price continuous tableside service. There is also an extensive salad bar available. There are 2 locations; one in midtown and the other is in Tribeca. I have only been to the midtown location. It is a very festive environment, especially on the nights when there is a live band performing Samba music.
If you want a more kitschy celebratory experience, I would suggest Mangia e Bevi. This Italian restaurant features a singing wait staff and the guests are given tambourines and other noisemakers to encourage participation in the merrymaking.
Happy ';B'; Day,
