Where to take my aunt for a drink in Manhattan

I visit the city a few times a year but am not terribly familiar with the bar scene. Does anyone know of a place you wouldn%26#39;t mind taking your aunt out for a drink? I%26#39;m looking for something pretty tame, perhaps with a bit of (old-fashioned?) elegance. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Depending on where you are staying, i would suggest TAVERN ON THE GREEN located in Central Park, it is a bit pricey, but very charming and elegant, the patio is beautiful, the greenery is wonderful to look at, as well while in central park you can take a horse drawn carriage for a tour of the park. Something on the more modern side would be the Broadway Lounge located in the Marriott Marquis (on the 8th floor), very large and great view of Broadway from the lounge. Just a few suggestions.

Try the Rainbow Room by Cipriani at the top of the Rockefeller Centre which has views of the manhattan skyline etc

Alternatively bring her to the River Cafe under the brooklyn bridge. As the evening gets dark you geta great view of the manhattan skyline as the lights of the buildings begin to twinkle and come on like a christmas tree

The Campbell Apartment is really spectacular. It reopened a about six or seven years ago after having been closed for years. There was a millionare businessman in the late 18 early 1900s (? this can be googled) named Campbell who lived the the suburbs, but had an %26#39;apartment%26#39; built in Grand Central Station in case he didn%26#39;t want to bother himself with the commute. The room has something like 30 ft high ceilings, inlaid wood, stained glass, it%26#39;s extraordinary. People often miss it because it%26#39;s sort of hidden. You have to exit Grand Central on the Vanderbilt side (it%26#39;s the side with Michael Jordan%26#39;s Steakhouse), go out the doors and turn immediately to your left. There%26#39;s a door there and a sign for %26#39;the Campbell Apartment%26#39; Very special indeed.

The Oyster Bar in the Plaza Hotel...Fifth Ave at Central Park South. Or just for fun, Mickey Mantle%26#39;s Bar, 42 Central Park S.

I like the first two suggestions. Other options might be the Bar at The Mark Hotel, the Bar at the Carlyle Hotel, or the Bar at the Algonguin Hotel. Each of these spots are elegant and loaded with charm. Especially the Algonquin. Have fun!
