JFK to midtown on subway, how?

Can anyone indicate, step by step, how to get from one to other, the absolute cheapest way involving Howard beach train, I believe?

How do you get from the airport to the train station? costs? Are there any hours of the day or night when this is not possible?

Forget Howard Beach. It%26#39;s the long way round. Take the AirTrain from your arrival terminal north to the last stop (Jamaica/Archer Avenue). Get the E train about a block away and take that into town. The AirTrain will cost $5 each and the subway an additional $2 each.
