any NYPD cops out there? or police advice please!!

ok maybe a little weird question. MY husband works for the metropolitan police here in london. IT would be his utter dream to get a closer look at a police force like new yorks etc with maybe the possibilty of going out for an afternoon with them etc.

Here in london they often take people out with them in the cars etc, people who want to join up etc and various other requests.

Does anyone know anyone in the NYPD to know if this is possible in new york? Hubby knows someone who went out with the florida cops when on holiday so wonder if the nypd do the same! It would truly make his holiday!! He is such a great bloke he took me on with three kids, he has a heart of gold and is a great dad to them and to our little girl, I would love to be able to surprise him with something like this.

any ideas or pointers for info or somewhere to write to/email etc would also be greatly appreciated.

The Civilian Observer Ride Along Program provides the public with an opportunity to observe police officers on patrol. Members of the public ride with officers in a patrol car for approximately two hours, witnessing first hand what a police officer on patrol encounters during a tour of duty. The program is open to anyone with valid photo identification over the age of eighteen. This past year 1,657 local community members, university students, law enforcement officials, and visitors from the United States and abroad experienced what it takes to patrol with New York锟斤拷锟絪 Finest.
