visa

i%26#39;ve read that you have to get a visa if you%26#39;ve got a conviction.

i only have 3 points on my driving license and no criminal record. would i have to declare this or is this not a problem ?

if anyone can give me any advice thanks !!!

visa

I dont think so as points isnt classed as a criminal conviction it is a penalty according to my copper hubby....but maybe check out or ring the embassy etc or take advice from the airline/travel agent etc

visa

I replied ot this but it doesnt seem to have posted so here goes again..

my hubby is a copper and he says points are a penalty not a criminal conviction...so on that basis it should be ok but double check with the embassy or take advice from a travel agent/airline etc

Go to the Orlando forum and keep scrolling down through the pages until you come to posts left by %26#39;Clactonman%26#39;. He had driving convictions and contacted the Embassy regarding this matter and has left posts regarding this matter. Hope this helps.

If you go to the UK pasport web site I%26#39;m sure it tells you there that you are safe!

To quote the Visa Waiver form section you have to fill in on the plane;

Have you ever been arrested or convicted for an offence or crime involving moral turpitude or a violation related to a controlled substance; or been arrested or convicted for two or more offences for which the aggregate sentence to confinement was five years or more; or been a controlled substance trafficker; or are you seeking entry to engage in criminal or immoral activities?

I don%26#39;t think 3 points on your license comes within any of these!!

In case anyone asks, ';moral turpitude'; means moral depravity...not that much clearer I know!

I know when I travelled to Florida many years ago I still had 3 points on my license that hadn%26#39;t run their course and was fine.

Hope this helps!

Hi, just to reiterate what everyone else has said - you only need a visa if you have a criminal conviction - found guilty in a court of law. Hope this helps.

666 devil

be aware

my husband got points on licence and banned for 1 year and fined yes he was wrong but this is now spent over here but not in usa even though it was 10years ago

thiis was definetly visa material the sooner you start the better as it takes weeks

if you go without one i believe if you hve not put this on the green form andn they ask you at customs you are straight away returned to your country and cannot come back into usa

the problem is we booked with a travel agent and they did not have a clue about this so you have to on your back even though they have taken monies do all the chasing your self

i suggest you ring the helpline for this and they will tell you asap

good luck the visa lasts as long as your passport life and thenredo

I got in last year and hired a car ok !

mark

youre tone sounds as though you are nowty so what had you done

we got in previous also and hired a car but now you cannot

Lynda,

I%26#39;m guessing that 666devil is referring to a straight 3 point speeding ticket type offence that didn%26#39;t go to court??

When things are a little different (or faster) and involve bans and courts then I can see your point that it%26#39;s going to be recorded somewhere.

The US Embassey website specifically states;

Travelers with minor traffic offenses which did not result in an arrest and/or conviction for the offense may travel visa free.

Automatic speeding camera type offences that don%26#39;t go to court certainly aren%26#39;t convictions.
