i have a feeling that there is a flat rate of 45 dollars from both LGA and JFK to hotels in manhattan.

The flat rate applies only to JFK, not LaGuardia. The cab fare will vary depending upon your time of arrival which will dictate how long you sit in traffic. Figure somewhere in the neighborhood of $30-$35 plus toll and tip. Shouldn%26#39;t exceed that.
