The Belvedere is a really good hotel - location is excellent, two blocks off Time Square but the street is really quiet and safe. Stayed there last Oct/Nov and could not find a single fault with hotel or its staff. I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

The Belvedere is in the heart of the theater district. It%26#39;s a wonderful area, convenient to all the theaters and great public transit access. This is the perfect location if you%26#39;re planning on seeing a couple of shows, as you don%26#39;t have to worry about traveling home, just stroll back to your hotel. It is also ';tourist central,'; the location most tourists choose, so it really isn%26#39;t what we call a ';real'; neighborhood. My favorite area is the upper west side, which is only a short subway ride from the theater district. It%26#39;s also got terrific subway/bus access. But it%26#39;s an upscale residential neighborhood that%26#39;s great to explore at all hours, full of great shops and restaurants. Convenient to Central Park, Riverside Park, the Museum of Natural History / Planetarium, Lincoln Center, and much more. It%26#39;s the neighborhood celebrated in the movie ';You%26#39;ve Got Mail.'; (You can take a virtual tour on their web site, www.youvegotmail.com.) Compare reviews on these UWS hotels: Beacon, Lucerne, Belleclaire, Newton, Milburn, Excelsior, On the Ave.

Our discount ticket booths, TKTS, sell cash-only, same-day tickets, but you won%26#39;t find the top shows there, the lines can be quite long, and you have no choice of seating. It%26#39;s much better to buy your tickets in advance and have them held at the theater box office. Use www.broadwaybox.com for discount tickets. Click on the show title and you%26#39;ll get instructions on ordering from secure sites. (Each show is handled by an exclusive ticket agent, usually Telecharge or Ticketron, and no matter how you purchase -- whether full price or discount -- you%26#39;ll be doing so through one of those agents.) If you want something that%26#39;s not available on discount, go to www.playbill.com and you%26#39;ll get directions for ordering full-price tickets. That way you%26#39;ll have in hand your first choice(s), and once you%26#39;re here, if you find you want to ';sneak'; in another show, you can give TKTS a try. To get an idea of what shows were sold the prior week at the TKTS booths, go to their web site, www.tdf.org.

One other thing to check on the playbill.com site -- some shows offer alternative ticketing, such as lotteries. You can find that info on playbill%26#39;s site... follow the link on the lower right side of their home page.

I stayed at the Belvedere in January and found it to be a lovely hotel- perfect in every way, especially location. Only small bit of advice if you do decide to stay here, don%26#39;t let them organize a cab for you to the airport.. they charge no less than DOUBLE the price you can get it for if you book it yourself!

Stayed at the Belvedere last September - it is great! Location is perfect, it is clean, nice-sized room, kitchenette, what more can you ask for in a budget hotel? To be honest, it didn%26#39;t really seem like a budget hotel to me. I don%26#39;t really care about room service or anything like that in NYC. I%26#39;m there to enjoy everything outside of the hotel, not in it! I really think you can%26#39;t go wrong by staying there.

Thanks to all of you who replied, good to know I have chosen a nice hotel in a good location and Bettina thanks for the info on the shows and Emily, ta for the taxi advice

This is such a good site and you are all so good helping us visitors

No doubt I will be posting more questions as time goes on

Again THANKS

Graeme
