Murray Hill Area

Can someone who knows, tell me a little about the neighborhood?? What attractions/sites is it close to? Is it a nice area?? I can%26#39;t seem to find a map that shows much of anything.

Murray Hill Area

Murray Hill is a mostly residential neighborhood in the 20%26#39;s %26amp; 30%26#39; on the east side of Manhattan, from Park Avenue So - 1st Avenue. If you stay on 34th St, for instance, you would be a few blocks from the ESB %26amp; Macys, or you would be close to Grand Central Station %26amp; the Chrysler Building. You would also be relatively close to the UN. It is within walking distance to TImes Square and near the #%26#39;s 4, 5 %26amp; 6 subway lines, plus near many bus routes. There are a number of good neighborhood restaurants on 3rd Avenue between 26th %26amp; 38th Streets, and bars, drugstores, supermarkets %26amp; delis. Walk south on LExingotn Avenue, for example, you would hit Gramercy Park, a beautiful little enclave of home, with the only private park in the city of NY. So, although a bit out of the ';action';, but very accessible to everything you might want to see. Depends on what you want.

Murray Hill Area

Excellent description from NYCGirl. Not only is Murray Hill nice, it%26#39;s one of the nicest areas in the City. Tree-lined streets, quiet, mostly residential. And other than Central Park and the museums or the downtown attractions, you can walk to almost anywhere from there.

Thank you both very much. That is exactly what I wanted to hear. We are staying at the Shelboune Murray Hill and from some of the reviews, it sounds like it ';should'; be very nice. We are in our 30%26#39;s and plan on seeing everything that you mentioned.

One more question if you don%26#39;t mind. A friend of mine told us not to go to the MOMA but rather the MET instead. If we only had time for one of the two, would that be your suggestion as well??

Have not been to MOMA since is has reopened, but you cannot ever go wrong with the MET, so that is my advice.

I am a regular vistor to NYC - my son lives in Tudor City (42 /2nd ave) It is right next to Murray Hill. It has nice restaurants, and it is easy to get to everything. It is easy to walk around and you can easily walk to Central Park from there. We walk everywhere, or take the bus - I prefer it to the subway. I went to the Moma in January, it was very crowded, if you want to try the restaurant prebook or you wont have a hope, I prefer the Met - there is just so much more to see. The Moma and Guggenheim are fine if you really love modern art. hope this helps

In Murray Hill, try Notaro on Second Avenue bet. 34th and 35th Sts. A great neighborhood Italian restaurant with good food, atmosphere, and service and some of the lowest fixed price menus in town if you go before 6 30. (Check their website.)

FYI, a ten minute walk north puts you at the United Nations.

Walk a few blocks to the west and you%26#39;re at Madison Square Garden and Macy%26#39;s.

Murray Hill is a good choice for an out of towner...not in the midst of the tourist traps and crowds, but accessible to lots of stuff.

Hi there.

We stayed at the Affinia 50 (sister hotel to the Shellburne) and if the service is as good as we had you have made a great choice.

The Murray Hill area is very pleasant. We walked through it several times and it really surprised us that we were so close to ';the sights';.

Enjoy NY and thats from a Brit.
