Good Barbecue Restaurant

We visit my daughter 3 - 4 times per year in Charlotte. Are there any barbecue restaurants that you would recommend, preferably not a chain restaurant? Thank you.

Good Barbecue Restaurant

For really good BBQ, you may want to consider a mini-road trip to Lexington (1 hour). This small town is all about BBQ. Seems there is a BBQ joint on nearly every corner and self proclamed %26#39;BBQ Capital of the World). Personal favorites are Speedy%26#39;s and Lexington BBQ. There are no chains.

Good Barbecue Restaurant

In Matthews there is a restaurant called %26#39;Elliott%26#39;s BBQ%26#39; which has excellent smoked bbq and sides. They have 4 homemade sauces too that are great. This isn%26#39;t a chain either but rather a family owned business. No frills, but great food.

Mac%26#39;s Speed Shop on South Blvd. is the best. My parents came in October and they%26#39;re still talking about it.

Lancaster%26#39;s BBQ on Beaties Ford Rd.

Bubba%26#39;s BBQ on Sunset Rd.

Bill Spoons BBQ on S. Blvd.

Hog Heaven BBQ on Eastway (not sure if its still open, but used to be awesome)

Nothing in Charlotte compares to Eastern NC BBQ but these will scratch an itch. I wouldn%26#39;t waste my time in Lexington. Tomato based sauce does not belong on pork.

All the really good BBQ places I grew up with in Charlotte are gone. Just next door in Gaston County - on Highway 74 in Lowell ( about 20-30 minutes from Charlotte) is a little place called Kyle Fletcher%26#39;s. It is about as good as it gets! I second Lexington as BBQ capital - but it%26#39;s a little far just for a meal. Best wishes!

I forgot about Kyle Fletchers. I 2nd it.

We usually stay in Belmont, so it looks like Kyle Fletcher%26#39;s is only 5 minutes away. Sounds great. Thank you everyone for all your help. Mark

Yes- 5 minutes right down Wilkinson Blvd. It%26#39;s on the right just before you get to Sonny Hancock Chevy.

Sounds like you found a local spot for BBQ. Quick follow-up, the small town of Lexington has about 20 BBQ restaurants alone. Sauce or %26#39;dip%26#39; as they call it is primarily vinegar based with spices and a little ketchup, not to be confused at all with ketchup based sauces. It%26#39;s a fun daytrip to hit Lexington and Childress Vineyards.

They only Q in Charlotte worth eating is Macks Speed Shop.

Lexington has the best Q hands down. Salisbury is a little closer and has Wink%26#39;s wich is just as good as any in LExington.
