Subway help?

Hi. We are staying at the Helmsley at 212 E 42nd and was wondering if a subway was nearby to take us to Battery Park, Staten Island ferry, FAO Schwartz toy store and the Intrepid Museum. Many thanks

Subway help?

Anyone?

Subway help?

Hi! Well if you are staying in midtown, you can walk up to 57th Street to FAO Schwarz. And the Intrepid is a bus ride all the way west on 42nd Street (get off the bus, cross the street and it%26#39;s on your right--you can%26#39;t miss it). When you get to NY, go down to the subway to a token booth and ask for a subway map. Also helpful, all subway stations have neighborhood, bus and subway maps. Have fun, and don%26#39;t forget to go to Central Park and see those ';gates';!

It is cheaper these days to take a cab to the sights. Growing uo int he city I don%26#39;t take the subway anymore becasue if you can beleive it cabs are cheaper

Please explain how a cab is cheaper than subway. Subway is $2 per, cab is $2.50 just for getting in the door, and at average is 5-7 dollars per trip, before tip. Cabs can also be hard to get during busy times of the day, so you stand and hail for a long long time till you get one. And most often than not, the subway gets you there a lot faster. For example, it takes 3-5 minutes from Grand Central to 59 St. and Lexington. It can take up to 15-20 minutes by cab. My advice: take the subway. It%26#39;s very New york and is cheap and fast.

If you%26#39;re going downtown, why not catch the M15 bus on 2nd Ave. (5-minute walk)? In traffic it can be slower than chilled molasses, BUT ...

You%26#39;ll go through lots of neighborhoods, incl. Chinatown and the South St. Seaport area, ending up at Battery Park. Likewise the M42 (from 42nd) for the Intrepid. You get off at 11th Ave. and walk a couple blocks west, then north. The bus crawls along 42nd Street so you can see everything going on.

The Subway is often more expedient, but for the same fare you can travel above-ground and see what the tour lines charge you a king%26#39;s ransom to see.

Best wishes for a visit you%26#39;ll enjoy!
