March trip

Hi We will be visiting New York for the first time in March and I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on the Comfort Inn Midtown on 129 West 46th Street. Also, what are some of the thigs to see in this area.

Thanks, Diane

March trip

It%26#39;s a crowded, tourist-laden area...right down the block from the famous ';Restaurant Row'; (on 46th), with dozens of restaurants on both sides of the street, featuring every ethnic cuisine you could imagine. The area is in the heart of the theater district, so expect it to be busy and bustling. But don%26#39;t worry..I assume the price is right and it%26#39;s pretty central to everything. A bit north and you%26#39;re on 57th Street: the Plaza Hotel, Carnegie Hotel, the elegant 57th st shops, the southernmost entry to Central Park. Go east and a few blocks south and you%26#39;re at the United Nations. NBC Studios and Rockefeller Center are in the 50%26#39;s and Sixth Avenue. Get the guidebooks and check all this stuff out. (A little more complicated than navigating Nashville...which my wife and I recently returned from and loved!)

Thank you for your reply geohab, I hope we do ok there, I am sure it will be a great experience for us. We are going to shop some, check out the Empire State Building, go to ground zero and go see the Statue of Liberty. We will have 3 whole days to site see so maybe we can do some other things too, we%26#39;ll see. By the way, where do I get the guidebooks that you were talking about? That would be a good thing to have. Also, I am glad you liked Nashville, it is really a nice place, we live in Knoxville, if you have never been to the smoky mountains you guys ought to go, it is beautiful there.

again thanks, D

Diane, check out your local Borders or Barnes %26amp; Noble...There should be tons of travel guides...Also, your local library will have things like Fodor%26#39;s, Mobil Guide...are you AAA members? Their guide books and maps are fine for your purposes. Re Tennessee, we did, in fact, stay in Townsend on our way to Nashville and loved the Smoky Mountains...We%26#39;re big country music fans (I wrote George Jones and got his autograph!)....and just saw a DVD of that amazing bluegrass show at the Ryman a couple of years ago! We are so country-starved up here.. 3 million people on Long Island, not one country station in the NY metro area!
