Hi there,
need your help finding cheap accom in downtown NYC! We are willing to compromise the quality of the place for a great location in a really funky area. We%26#39;re spending a week in the broadway district and have 5 days to fill after that. I know Soho is meant to be the coolest area but am I dreaming?
Was also thinking of hot air ballooning - any better suggestions?
Cheers,
Olivia
Downtown Accom - cheap (backpacker even)
Don%26#39;t know what ';cheap'; means to you, but here are a few options.
St Marks Hotel %26amp; 2nd Home on 2nd Avenue, both in the East Village, very funky, cool area.
West Village - Washington Sq Hotel, near Washington Sq Park.
Downtown Accom - cheap (backpacker even)
There really is no hot air ballooning over NYC, but there are some closeby.

That%26#39;s a great help, thank you. I%26#39;ll have a look at those hotels. We%26#39;re trying to keep accom down as much as possible but are willing to pay up to about $130/night if we have to. Or more. It depends what is available I guess!
Thanks again,
Olivia
Dare I say.... you could always try the pennsylvannia Hotel - te reviews are rubbish, but I%26#39;ve stayed there before and am going again next week.
perhaps it is just luck with the rooms, but I guess as long as it is clean (which it was - inside room)... it%26#39;s not like you spend a lot of time in the room anyway! Our room was 410 dollars for 4 nights.
Thanks MJ,
I%26#39;ll definitely check it out. Exactly - you%26#39;re not in there much so why spend all your money on accom?
cheers
Hi Olivia, have you thought of bidding for a room on priceline. I have been watching this very closely and see that people are bidding for 3.5 to 4 star properties for just over $100US. You do not know the name of the hotel but can be specific about the neighbourhood, such as Soho. Have a look , check the details on how to bid and see what you think. I managed to get the Sheraton Hotel at LAX (4 star) for $60 for our first nite there. regards
Jennie
Olivia. I see Beekman Towers is listed around 150 per night for 3.5 star. Check out the reviews; it may be suitable
I%26#39;ve just come back from New York and stayed at the Union Square Inn. www.unionsquareinn.com It%26#39;s in a good location (209 East 14th St), not far away from where you want to be (everywhere is pretty close within the city and the subway is a 2 min walk away) and it%26#39;s good value at about $100 per night. It%26#39;s small, but clean and ideal for budget travellers.
