Affinia DuMont

Planning our honeymoon in NYC next summer. We will arrive at JFK at 19.45 and stay at Affinia Dumont - how long would the customs and transfer take? Is taxi the best alternative? Any comments on the hotel for a honeymoon?

We%26#39;re thinking of going to Niagara for a couple of nights. What is the best way to go there, car?

REPLY RE NIAGARA FALLS QUERY

It is quite a long drive to Niagra from New York. We did it a couple of years ago but stopped overnight both ways.

The falls at Niagara is worth seeing but the town (Niagara Falls) is pretty commercialised or you could even say a bit ';tacky';. Niagara on the Lake is a beautiful place nearby, very quaint and more up-market. Upstate New York and by the finger lakes is a beautiful drive but if you only have a couple of days I would perhaps look at flying up there. No idea what the cost is and where you should fly to though.

I stayed at the Affinia Dumont for my 40th Birthday in Nov / Dec last year.

It is a lovely hotel - I wouldn%26#39;t say its romantic but it is very nice,comfortable, large rooms and the staff are really friendly.

Its in a nice location - near enough to walk to most things but in a nice residential area so its not too noisy or busy around there. Also there are good local restaurants catering to the locals not the tourists.

If you want to know anything specific then post back and I will try and help.

One point - have you told the hotel its your honeymoon? If its a special occasion they try to upgrade you to a larger suite - so its worth e mailing them and telling them that.

Any ideas of the cost of flying from NYC to Niagara and back? We have one and a half weeks in NYC and surroundings - the idea was to spend the majority of the time in the city and a couple of days at Niagara. If the flight to Niagara is too expensive, what other (perhaps romantic) alternatives are there to spend out of the city?

Secondly - is Affinia 50 and Dumont about the same standard? The reviews for Dumont seem slightly better but is 50%26#39;s location better?

If you look at Buffalo airport website( buffaloairport.com) you will see that Jet Blue do flights at around $50 each way.

Re Affina 50 v Affiania Dumont - I haven%26#39;t been to the 50 - all I can say is the Dumont is very comfortable - if you look at the photos on their web site they are exactly like them - thats what you get. In terms of location - we found the Dumont very accessible to everywhere - either walking or catching the bus - there are stops outside / opposite the hotel entrance.

I would stay there again as I didn%26#39;t feel I was too far from anything.
