This has just come in here in the Uk. It means you put your pin number into a machine when you use your credit card instead of signing, to buy goods. Has this ridiculous system made it to NYC yet??
Chip and Pin
Maybe. Are you talking about a %26#39;debit card%26#39; (or at least that%26#39;s what they call it over here), which takes the money directly out of your checking account at point of purchase?
Chip and Pin
It can be debit and credit card, it is used on all types of cards here. Not for taking money out of cash machines obviously you need a PIN for that, but when you are buying from a shop, restaurant etc.
I understood that it was just being used around Europe at the moment.
I hope you are right daisee, I think the whole chip and pin thing is rather silly!!
I don%26#39;t mind it...I think I%26#39;m in a minority!
You%26#39;ve got my agreement Daisiegee! I think its much more secure
I think signing and the PIN would be secure but it is so open to fraud at the moment. Anyay, aren%26#39;t we deviating slightly from my original question??
yes angiem!
so mistress, does it apply to either debit or credit cards there yet?
When you pay with a card, the clerk will ask ';Credit or Debit.'; If it%26#39;s debit, you enter your PIN number.
Thanks Bettina, that%26#39;s all I needed to know!!
