htoel choices

I have been pouring over hotel choices and am down to possibily choosing affinia 50 on 53rd and Lexington. How close is this to local attractions? Will we be able to walk most places?

I like staying in Midtown and closer to 42nd and Broadway but usually those hotels and $$$ and dumpy. The Mellennium is booked for my dates so any other suggestion. Is the bidding route really a safe bet? Though we plan on being out a lot, I would like a comfortable place to sleep at the end of the day.

The Affinia 50 gets almost unanimously good reviews and you can%26#39;t beat the location. You%26#39;re within walking distance of Times Square, Central Park, Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center, the theater district and, if you like walking, even the Empire State Building.

Some of the major north-south subway lines run along Lexington Avenue and you can get to the west side on the subway at either 57th St or the shuttle from Grand Central to Times Square. Keep in mind that it takes only about one minute to walk one street block, so from 53rd to 42nd is about 11 minutes. It should take you another 10 or so minutes to walk from 42nd and Lex to Times Square.

Affinia on 53rd and Lex sounds is a great location. It%26#39;s away from the mobs of Times Square, yet certainly walkable to that area. Also, the Lexington Ave. subway will take you downtown, to S. St. Seaport, Chinatown, Little Italy. Once you%26#39;re downtown, it%26#39;s easy to walk over to the west side (Greenwich Village, Soho...). If you%26#39;d look on a map, you%26#39;d notice that Manhattan gets really narrow once you%26#39;re downtown. 53rd and Lex is also a great area for access to the Upper East Side - great shops and restaurants. 1st Ave, above 60th St. has lots of nighlife (good for bar hopping, if you%26#39;re into that). One more thing: Definitely walk over to the Plaza Hotel at 5th and 59th. (Horse %26amp; carriages). You can enter the park at 59, the zoo is right there. Or, walk west on 59th St. (Central Park South) to Columbus Circle. Then uptown on the west side - Columbus Ave to the 70%26#39;s. It%26#39;s a great walking city - bring only comfortable shoes (or top of the line running shoes, like what I wear)!!

Sofitel at 44th is the best hotel in new york.....worth every penny

You might try the Algonquin. Call them direct. It is very centrally located, has undergone a major upgrade, provides exceptional service and has a wonderful restaurant and bar in the lobby, along with Mathilda, the cat. Posted and internet prices for the Algonquin do not reflect the negotiations they are willing to take on with a direct call from a potential customer. I have stayed several times with excellent rates, based on my direct call.
