LaGuardia with 11 year old

Hello,

I am coming to New York for the first time on Mar 30 with my 11 year old daughter. I have read these forums and used all of your wonderful info to plan our trip. One area that I am unsure of is the best way to get from LaGuardia to our hotel - The Casablanca (at times square). We will be arriving on a Wednesday at 2:30 in the afternoon. Should we book a car service, a shuttle bus or take a taxi?

Thank you!

A car service or a taxi would be your best bet. I used Carmel (www.carmellimo.com), and with the discount coupon printed online, it was about $28, plus toll and tip. After you get your luggage, you call them, and within about 5 or 10 minutes, a car comes and picks you up. I%26#39;ve also taken a taxi from LaGuardia, and it ended up being over $40 because we got caught in major traffic, and the meter keeps ticking even when you%26#39;re not moving! Also, watch out for shady-looking guys hanging around baggage claim asking if you need a taxi. They are NOT approved taxis! There is a little booth outside you can go to and someone there will get a taxi for you.

Thanks - I%26#39;ll look them up online and get that discount certificate! Can you remember how long it takes to get to Time Square?

It all depends on the time of day and the traffic. It took us over an hour the time I took a taxi! If it%26#39;s a good day, I think it only takes about 20-25 minutes.

I was sort of apprehensive about this issue the first time I flew into LGA because it was my first trip alone and I was only 20 at the time and incredibly clueless. Have no fear, it was a breeze. I took a taxi. The are all lined up right outside of baggage claim, you can pretty much follow everyone else. There will be a man in a little booth and he will direct you. If I remember correctly, I was in route to the hotel around 4:30 in the afternoon and it was about $40-$45. I had no problems and I have done the same exact routine twice over so I am sure you and your daughter will be just fine. Have fun

With the carmel limo, do you need reservations or do you just call them when you land? There are 4 of us landing around 11am on a Tuesday with carryons only and we need to decide taxi or carmel. What do you think?

You do need to contact Carmel first with your hotel information, flight time, etc. Then you call them after you%26#39;ve picked up your luggage. They%26#39;ll send a car (with your name in the window) to pick you up. www.carmellimo.com has all the info, but I called and actually talked to someone.

The Front Desk staff at the Hotel Casablanca is exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. Give the hotel a call and ask them who (or what) they recommend.
