would it be a good idea to get a bus from jfk into manhattan at 15 dollars each for two people if we are staying at the ny hilton. does the bus go anywhere near the new york hilton or would we need to get a cab from wherever the bus drops us off. we won%26#39;t have loads of luggage but don%26#39;t fancy negociating the subway on arrival.
alternatively, would it work out the same price to get a cab straight to the hotel. after reading reports about new york taxis, i intend to walk to as many places as possible. are the airport taxis different to the taxis discussed on this forum i.e. do they know the routes and most important are they safe drivers.

The buses go to either the Port Authority Terminal, Penn Station or Grand Central, each of which is a decent distance from your hotel, and with luggage, after an international flight, you%26#39;d probably want to take a cab from any of those locations to your hotel.
You can get the Super Shuttle, $17 per person, which will take longer but will drop you at your hotel.
A cab from JFK will cost you $45 flat rate set by law plus tolls and tip, usually coming out to $60. But that%26#39;s for both, not each.
As I%26#39;ve discussed in depth on this forum, I do not consider the NY taxi drivers to be safe drivers and they certainly don%26#39;t know their way around the city. However, the one place they do know how to get to and from is the airport. So a taxi from the airport should deliver you to your hotel.

We come to NY every six months, we stay at the Hilton 6 Ave, the easy way is to walk out of the airport, go to the taxi line, the guy/girl in charge asks where you are going, which hotel, gives you a docket, you get into a cab, about half and hour later you are at the hotel. You pay the flat rate $ 45 + tolls + tip - just like Ruffian said. After a long flight, I just want to get to the hotel, and this is the quickest way. The return journey we book a limo - usually Carmel.
