desperate for some help!

I am due to fly tomorrow however...........on sunday i found out i had a stress fracture on the left hand side of my foot. I can walk on tip toes fairly easily, however the pain gradually starts to kick in. Am i mad for going tomoz? i do have health insurance etc etc, and an extremely kind and thoughtful boyfriend that%26#39;ll help me around. I%26#39;m so indecisive as to what to do...! It%26#39;s a pain as it was my 21st bday present :(

That%26#39;s a real shame as the best way to see NY is to walk in it, however, I would still go, but just take it easy. Cabs are really cheap so you get around that way, and the subway is only $2 for a single trip and you can go pretty much anywhere. If you go to the museums you can sit down every so often. There%26#39;s plenty to do where you can sit down, for example, a helicopter ride, the circle line cruise, restaurants, cinema, carriage ride round Central Park. There are Starbucks and cafes all over the place so if you need a sit down for a while, it won%26#39;t be a problem finding somewhere. If you go to Liberty Island there%26#39;s not that much walking and it%26#39;s a lift up to the top of the pedestal not steps and if you go up the ESB try to go around tea time so there%26#39;s minimal queuing. You could always use it as an excellent excuse for a return visit when your foot%26#39;s healed!!!

desperate for some help!

thanks for your advice...i have made some progress today and got my cat boot on!! I%26#39;m not walking too bad on it! It%26#39;s just dressing up i%26#39;m worried about i%26#39;m never going to be able to wear high heels :( and we%26#39;ve booked tavern on the green

You could always visit Ground Zero (subway goes straight there so no worries about walking) to pay your respects, and then opposite is Century 21 which sells pretty much everything so you could see if you could get some nice kitten heels which hopefully would be easier to walk in and would look nice and dressy. Or, if you%26#39;re in midtown there are loads of shoe shops that you could try. I hope it all goes ok - let me know when you get back!!

Thanks loads again....people on here are so great...i%26#39;d be lost without all the advice i%26#39;d been given throughout the planning of this trip!!

hope you make your trip tomorrow nicci, would be such a shame not to go, im sure you will be ok, its so easy to get around by cabs, subway, etc. have a great 21st birthday, im off again in 5 weeks time, cant wait its such a brilliant place, good luck, let us know how you get on

Taxis are realtively cheap in Ny so maybe do a bit a taxing and save the foot a bit. Hope you enjoy your trip and have a ball.

Have a fab trip Nicci, hope it all goes well for you and don%26#39;t give up on those heels yet! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Leave the heels home! It%26#39;s really not worth the risk of further damage. You%26#39;d be surprised how casual most places are here. I know you want to dress up for Tavern on the Green, but it%26#39;s not worth the pain. Wear comfortable flat shoes... you%26#39;re just going to be sitting at a table.

Get a bus map and take the time to familiarize yourself with the main uptown-downtown (mostly along the avenues) and crosstown routes in Manhattan. You might have difficulty using subways as you%26#39;ll have to navigate a lot of stairs. Buses are slow but will make life easier, and they all have a ';kneeling'; device that lowers the steps. If the driver doesn%26#39;t automatically lower the steps, just ask.

Bettina, I am so glad you responded to this! I have bone spurs in my heels which make alot of walking, and stair climbing in particular, a real pain. I am assuming the busses are as safe as the subways and I like the idea of seeing what i am passing.

Again guys thank you soooooooooo much you are all so lovely. I have my case packed now, so no turning back...glad my question has managed to help a few others out too.

Be in touch with my review...
