My daughter and I were thinking it was time to update our make-up, well actually she thought it was time I update my make-up. Any recommendations where we could go for make-overs and purchase a few products.
Cosmetic Store Recommendations!
I am assuming that this is something you want to do while you are visiting my fair city (NYC)...check out Sephora (locations all over Manhattan) or the main floor at Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy%26#39;s and Bloomingdales. Have fun!
Cosmetic Store Recommendations!
I was walking though Macy%26#39;s and was offered a make-over. After two hectic days shopping they probably thought I needed it! They did a great job. A few from various companies were offering same. I got mine from Clarins.
definitely Sephora im completely accidted to it. They have great products and selection.
Sephora, and Bloomingdales has a great selection of makeup. I find at the Sephora near me, it is hard to find someone to help me with makeup. It is always so busy!! Any large department store will have a great selection, close to the selection at Sephora.
Sephora is great if you know what you want but if you%26#39;re looking for advice I think maybe MAC (stores in the Village and Soho, counters at Bendel%26#39;s and Macy%26#39;s) is a better bet.
Dear IowaTraveler41,
I鈥檇 stay away from the department store makeovers. Macys and Bloomies can be a zoo with shoppers walking everywhere and the staff often uses high pressure sales techniques. The Divas on both sides of the makeup counter at the MAC store are a bit much to take. I suggest checking out the Bare Escentuals store located on the Upper Eastside on Third Avneue - 646 537-0070. You may have seen the infomercials on TV. It is a small shop so you receive personalized service and can play and experiment without a large audience. If you are not satisfied with the results at Bare Escentuals there is a Sephora located right across the street.
Another option is to go to a day spa for a facial and makeup application. In that environment you can become educated on how to best care for your skin as well as learn about makeup application.
Here is to a more beautiful you,

Thanks, I mapped it on City Search and it is fairly close to our hotel.
Do you have any recommendations for a reasonably priced day spa in that area?
Dear IowaTraveler41,
If you decide to go the spa route, I would suggest Mario Badescu on E 52nd Street - mariobadescu.com or Le Petit Spa on E 34th Street - lepetitspanyc.com. I have not experienced Badescu but, I have a girlfriend who is a spa junkie and she loves it. She says that the staff is very knowledgeable and the prices are reasonable. She says that a number of celebrities go there but, the environment is pampering but not pompous.
I have been to Le Petite Spa on a number of occasions. I recommend this place for many of the same reasons I recommended the Bare Escentuals store in my last posting. Le Petit is small and will afford you a more relaxed and personalized experience. It is discreetly located at the back of a cute parfumerie. I like it so much I held a party for a group of 15 girlfriends and relatives. It was a diverse group with regard to ethnicity, age (16yrs-70yrs) and spa experience. They all had enjoyed the experience. The spa divas in the group were impressed with the services and the spa newbies were treated with kid gloves.
Also, they have a garden oasis in the back that can be enjoyed during nice weather.
Peace,
ATreeGrowsinBrooklyn
