Name your favorite Neighborhood and what to see.

I%26#39;ve read some wonderful travel plans and need help selecting a neighborhood a day? Where do we start if staying midtown-west and only have 5 days. Need to include ESB, Staten Island Ferry, Museum of Nat. History, Metro Art.

Thanks,

Graycee

Great question....Impossible to answer! My own favorite ';neighborhoods'; -- for different reasons-- are Gramercy Park, Murray Hill, Upper East Side, West Village, Chelsea.

Each has its own character, restaurants, ';type'; of people...

What are you looking for? Just jump right in, pick restaurant destinations, and walk around.

Ironically, the places you want to see are really not in any of these ';neighborhoods';; they%26#39;re all in kind of Tourist New York! (But they%26#39;re must-sees, nevertheless....You missed the South Street Seaport and the United Nations, which I think are worth including in any visit to NY.)

I%26#39;ve had this interesting web site on my ';favorites'; list for quite a while. It%26#39;s a collection of gargoyle locations in my favorite neighborhood, the upper west side. Nearby attractions are the Museum of Natural History / Planetarium, Central Park, Riverside Park, Lincoln Center, Zabar%26#39;s, Fairway and Gray%26#39;s Papaya!!!

You can also take a virtual neighborhood tour on the ';You%26#39;ve Got Mail'; web site, www.youvegotmail.com.

I prefer downtown--the Greenwich Village/Soho/Little Italy area to be precise. Numerous places to eat. Interesting things to see. Galleries. Shops. Every kind of person imaginable. Check out Washington Square Park, the tiny streets of the Mews, the unusual urban campus of NYU, the clubs along Bleecker and MacDougal. Enjoy exploring the galleries and cafes in SoHo. Notice the great architecture of many of the old buildings. Wander down Spring Street to Little Italy. At night, watch the families and kids in the park on the corner of Spring and Mulberry. Walk down Mulberry and have a choice of about 30 different restaurants for dinner.
