Coming to the city in October and after much research have narrowed it down to 2 hotels;the Michaelangelo in midtown and the Lucerne in the UWS.I realize the Michaelangelo is a little more upscale but am intrigued by the neighborhood feel of the UWS.My wife has never been to city so I%26#39;m sure we%26#39;ll be doing all the touristy stuff. Is it too inconvenient?Would appreciate to hear from the knowledgeables their comparisons of the two locations.Thanks.
Advantages of the UWS
The Upper West Side is far less touristy than Midtown. It%26#39;s a real NYC neighborhood with lots of locals walking around, shopping at the markets, eating at their favorite restaurants, walking dogs, etc. It is not inconvenient at all to the touristy stuff, as there is easy access to several subway stops which can get you anywhere around town. I%26#39;ve stayed all over Manhattan, and the UWS is my favorite place to be.
Advantages of the UWS
You%26#39;ve narrowed your choice down to two really fine hotels, but I%26#39;d also vote for the UWS!
The UWS is definitely a neighborhood. Midtown is more of a sightseeing location. While the Michaelangelo is a delightful hotel and a great place to stay if you select midtown, you%26#39;ll feel more like a New Yorker on the west side. It%26#39;s not inconvenient, either. You%26#39;re only a few subway stops away from everything.
I%26#39;ve stayed in midtown and the UWS, but thought the UWS was so much nicer. The transport links are great, I certainly didn%26#39;t feel out on a limb, and the restaurants and bars are great. I liked it so much, I%26#39;m staying in the same place this year.
I missed this one. What is the UWS?
The Upper West Side. Generally, north of 59th St to 96th and from Central Park West to the Hudson River.
